Antique Books

Antique books have survived the ravages of time and misfortune. There are many projects underway to save and reproduce old books. IBM is digitizing precious books. The Gutenberg project is converting old books to a machine readable format. The problem is these do not give you the same feel of reading old books with their frayed corners and faded pages. The touch of history is evident in each book.

Many antique books are available to you if you collect them. These books don’t have to be rare, just old. Some books may be interesting, others not so much, but one thing they share. They are the survivors of ages of turmoil and peace. It is fascinating to look at the binding and how the paper was made in these old books. Some antique books are so frayed that the pages had to be put in plastic sheets for them not to fall apart.
